There are 3 categories of firms that hire you as video game tester and the salary paid varies depending on the company that offered you the job. They are through large scale developers; as in video game companies like Xbox, Nintendo etc, small scale developers; as in developers that develop from home. They can also be classified as sole game developers and testing firms; as in companies that their main business is to test games and reports bugs for both the small scale and large scale game companies. Now let’s classify them according to the amount of salary they pay.

Large scale developers: if you are lucky to get a testing job from large developers, there salary ranges from $10-$12 per hour. There pay, at times, is the largest all. You also receive compensation for any bug you find and other allowances attached to your salary.

Small scale developers: there pay fall in-between the other twos. You can expect to earn between $8 to $10 per hour. You are more opportune to get a testing job from this set of developers than the other twos. They also allow testers to test games from home.

Testing firms: you should expect to earn from as little as $7 to as big as $11. There is also additional compensation attached to it if you find any bug.

To summarize it all, the amount of money you earn depends on the years of experience you have in testing games. Experience counts! The more your experience grows the more you will earn. If you have 7 years experience in game testing you would earn about $70,000 yearly, that’s it.

There are openings for a video game tester. If you know someone that works in a video game company, then you have great chances of securing a video game testing job, but if you don’t know any person there your chances are limited. There are 3 steps of fulfilling your video game testing dreams.

Make a connection
Approach video game companies and tell them about your willingness to become a video game tester. Tell them about the games you’ve played and the ones you own. The more you define how well you’ve been playing games, the more they are likely to accept you. Though it’s possible to see a video game testing ads on the newspapers or video game manufacturer’s website but it’s very rare. Luckily, you could get the job and begin your video game testing career.

Once the games are delivered to you through mail, take time to read the manuals that came with it and follow their instructions meticulously. Remember not to leave any stones unturned. Test the games over and over again and make sure that no glitches are left behind. As you test the games, write down any bug you notice at all levels of the games. If you are not familiar with detecting bugs, I suggest you should take a short ecourse to familiarize yourself with all aspects of this opportunity. Video game testing requires a lot of concentration; distractions could make you miss a bug. It’s unlike playing games for fun; it’s more difficult than playing games for fun.

After you’ve finished testing the games, return your feedbacks to the company that assigned you the job. Remember that time factor is very crucial in video game testing. Even if they are busy when you go to return your feedbacks, do not hesitate to stand by until you’ve delivered the assignment.

Hopefully, your check would come after your first testing has been completed and submitted. With time you would build a strong reputation with the named company and surely, more testing will follow.

Video game testing will be an entertaining job to you when you get used to detecting bugs and glitches. The pay is very attractive, it could range from $20 to $150 per day, depending on the number of hours you spend testing the games assigned. They also give benefits based on the number of bugs detected by you. It doesn’t even finish there; game tricks like cheat codes and the rest of others are also revealed to you. You also get free samples when the new version of the games you’ve tested hit the market. Game testing could stressful and at the same time rewarding. Take time to discover the opportunities that await a video game tester, exploit them and build your career from what you love to do.

Some people dream of nothing more than being able to become a video game tester. Education can be an extremely important part of becoming one. Video game testers are in high demand due to the fact that it is getting more and more expensive to make video games. Because of this, video game companies want to make sure that the products they put on the market work flawlessly and are enjoyable to play. This is why they hire people to make sure that they are!

Education?

Many want to become a tester and wonder if they need to have a specific education in order to make their dream happen. It honestly depends on exactly what you want to do in the video game world. If you are looking to design games, you will want to study computer programming. If you want to be able to draw and create the characters and background, you should go into graphic design.

Some believe that, by becoming a video game tester, they will be able to work their way further up the ladder in the video game industry. It depends on exactly what you’re wishing to do. If you believe that you are going to become a programmer after testing video games for a year and with no training or experience, you are unfortunately wrong. Programming takes a long time to learn, and it’s very rare that someone who has no training in it can work as a game programmer. If, however, you wish to become a games tester supervisor simply from being a video game tester, that goal is possible.

Writing

One of the best things you can do if you want to be a video game tester is to take courses in writing. Most video game testers have to report their findings in writing to the programmers. If the programmers are unable to understand, what you are trying to write, you probably will not go far. They want testers that they can understand, not testers that have a hard time explaining their findings. This is why taking writing courses is extremely important.

If you take writing courses you can also pursue another avenue of video game production: writing the storyline. The video game companies need people who are able to write the storyline and the dialogue. They appreciate people who have imaginations and are able to explain difficult concepts.

If you’re looking to become a tester, you may want to think about taking some courses, simply to be able to get ahead in the gaming industry. If, however, you’re more than happy playing video games all day, you probably do not need to worry about getting any more training than you already have. Remember, to be a video game tester education is not necessary, but it can always help you if you want to get ahead in the industry!
